ASP - Active Server Page
An HTML page including one or more scripts processed on a Microsoft web server before the page is sent to the user. An ASP is similar to SSI or a CGI application because they are programs that run on the server, generally providing web page information (all or in part) for the end user.

When a page is requested from your database, ASP allows the page to be built or customized on the fly before returning the page to the requesting browser. ASP is a feature of the Microsoft Internet Information Server, however, since the server-side script is creating a standard HTML page, it can be returned to almost any browser.
